Beginning Counselling
Deciding to seek help and then choosing a counsellor can be a daunting prospect, especially if you are in emotional distress. I hope this website is helpful, however please don't hesitate to contact me directly to talk it through.
How it works
We would sit together in a quiet, confidential room at a private address. You are given the space to talk freely about whatever feels most important or troubling - this may be the events of the week, a difficult relationship, troubling thoughts, or dreams. By listening carefully to you your counsellor works to help you bring your true feelings to the surface, so that you can experience them and understand them.
Regular weekly sessions
A session is a weekly 50 minute appointment between the client and counsellor, at the same time on the same day. The regularity and frequency is important to the work, so deciding to attend counselling is a commitment. Counselling can last from a few months, a year or longer.
Fees
The cost for an initial consultation is £20. Thereafter fees for ongoing sessions vary from £20 per session, depending on your circumstances. We will discuss and agree a workable fee in the first session.
I do offer concessionary rates for students and clients who are on lower incomes. Fees are payable in cash or cheque at the end of the session. |

Confidentiality
What you say during your counselling is confidential, with the exception of:
- If it's clear that you intend to severely harm yourself
- If it's clear that you intend to harm someone else
- If you pose a risk to children
Making the first appointment
It's not necessary to be referred by your GP to make an appointment. If you feel that you could benefit from the opportunity to talk frankly about your life call me to arrange an initial consultation. In this one-off appointment we can explore how counselling could help you, before deciding to begin regular weekly sessions. |
